Jessica Breed (b. 1986) is a visual artist living in Charlottesville, Virginia. Textiles and painting are used as a framework to explore an emotive language of memory, place, and time.
My process is guided by the unpredictable nature of chance. I use intuitive mark-making and layers of paint and dye to reveal answers along the way. Color and form are used as a means to explore delicate moments in time that may otherwise go unnoticed, or be forced into perfect completion. The work looks inward, seeking abstract connection. I intentionally create ambiguously soft tensions through spatial play and color fields.
My lived experience is a muse for abstract form. Thoughts, phrases heard, conversations, and emotional discourse are assigned to my titles. Paint, dye, and expressive marks become a form of journaling. Each finished work reflects a passage of time.
